Alumina ceramic is an advanced ceramic material made primarily of alumina (Al₂O₃), supplemented with other components, and sintered at high temperatures.

Why Purity Grades Matter?
Purity Grading: Performance varies greatly depending on the alumina content. Typically, the content ranges from 75% to 99.99%.

75, 85, 90, 95, 99: The numbers represent the alumina content. Higher content results in better performance (hardness, temperature resistance, insulation), but also increases processing difficulty and cost. 95 and 99 alumina are the most commonly used.

For example, 99 alumina is used in high-temperature furnace tubes and ceramic bearings; 95 alumina is used in mechanical seals and wear-resistant bushings; 85 alumina is commonly used in electronic vacuum devices and metal sealing components.

Key Properties That Define Its Performance
Core Properties: High Hardness: Its Mohs hardness is 9, second only to diamond (Mohs hardness 10) and a few other materials in nature. Excellent wear resistance.

High Temperature Resistance: With a melting point as high as 2050℃, it can operate stably for extended periods at temperatures up to 1600℃ while maintaining good structural strength at this temperature.

Chemical Inertness: It exhibits strong resistance to most acids, alkalis, and chemical solvents (except hydrofluoric acid and concentrated strong alkalis), demonstrating excellent chemical stability.

Strong Electrical Insulation: Even under high frequency and high voltage conditions, it remains an excellent insulator with low dielectric loss, making it an ideal material for the electronics industry.

Relatively Low Cost: Compared to advanced ceramics such as zirconium oxide and silicon carbide, alumina has abundant raw material sources and mature production processes, resulting in a much more affordable price.

Where Is Alumina Ceramic Used?
Electronics & Electrical: Integrated circuit substrates, LED heat sinks, high-voltage insulators;

Mechanical & Chemical: Ceramic sealing rings, wear-resistant pipe linings, ball valve cores, sandblasting nozzles;

Energy & Medical: High-temperature furnace components, bioceramics (artificial joints), sensor housings;

Laser/Precision Equipment: Laser cavity insulation components, optical component mounting bases, etc.

The Processing Challenge & Laser Cutting Breakthrough
Alumina ceramics are produced in large quantities and have wide applications, but their high hardness and brittleness pose challenges such as edge chipping, cracking, and low yield in traditional processing.

Yclaser Precision Ceramic Cutting Machine uses non-contact laser processing technology, eliminating mechanical stress and tool wear, easily handling various high-purity alumina ceramics.
